funi picture 113Well, another day today in China...working with pandas...tough life!

Today I was shown how to make Panda cake, which they all seem to love. It is quite a complicated process. Luckily Jason has time to set this all up before our arrival back in just 9 days - we need to buy a steamer and a grinding machine! Lou Bo is an excellent cake maker so he will teach us when he is in Adelaide.

We also got to visit the nursery today. They had a good breeding year with 16 cubs born....3 sets of twins! We got to see the mums lying with the babies..so beautiful! Really gives me a great push to know my direction in a couple years time when it comes time for us to breed.

It was good to see the facilities as well. They have done so much here since the horrible earthquake at Wolong. All the new facilities mean they can continue with their wonderful work. I was talking to a keeper today while feeding Funi and he told me that she is one of the favourites at the centre due to her calm and friendly personality. It makes me think that we are so lucky to get such an amazing girl!

A 2 1/2 year old panda named Fulong arrives at the centre tonight. He was breed at Vienna Zoo, Austria, and is coming over for the breeding programme. Hopefully when he grows up he will be able to mate successfully. His keepers must be so happy and proud. There is going to be a big celebration tomorrow morning in honour of Fulong. Really nice that they are so happy and proud of each individual panda - there are posters and banners all over the centre!

That is all for now...I am off to dinner to enjoy some of the beautiful food that China provides!

Until next time.
