Hi Guys, this is Lynley Johnson here, another of the vets from ZoosSA. You will be getting to know all of us from the vet department over the next few weeks as we are all taking it in turns to run the blog!

Well I'm up at Monarto today and most of this week, as Ian is away in KI looking at fish. It looks like we are heading for another hot week which won't be a lot of fun; as Ian mentioned last week, the animals suffer the same as you or I from heat and we try to put off anaesthetics and health checks as much as possible as they don't need the added stress.

Its been a fairly busy morning for me, looking at our cheetah with a damaged salivary duct and one of our lions who has an ongoing infection in her ear. I've also had a look at the young P Horse colt who has made a dramatic improvement and all looks to be going well. He is on a few more days of anti-inflammatories and continuing on thiamin.

There is another lame Bison who is certainly getting on and I think is probably stiffness related to old age. We are also going to be looking at an Addax calf on Wednesday morning so I have been preparing an anaesthetic for her. A lot of planning and forethought must go into anaesthetics on wild animals as they need to be as short and coordinated as possible to minimize the time the animal is under anasethetic and ensure there is enough staff to help move very heavy animals.

I am heading to Cleland tomorrow morning and then will be back down at Adelaide so I will fill you in then on what this afternoon and tomorrow morning brings!
